Immediate Implant

Immediate Implant
Dental implant is defined as a device that penetrates oral mucosa and places in the desired bone of mouth. Dental implant has the ability of adjustment and integrity like natural tooth so it may be used to support other fixed or
movable prosthesis.

Applications of dental implants

Today, the dental implants are used as natural teeth; they are beautiful and efficient as natural teeth as well as are durable as them. It is noteworthy that due to its impacts on oral function and the patients' mental conditions, lack
of teeth in most patients is considered as a kind of handicap. Studies suggest that the success rates of application of dental implants are 95% and 93% in mandible and maxilla, respectively.

Material of Implants

Dental implants are made from titanium and are screwed into the jaws. This material as consistent with jaws and is not perceived as external body. Thus, in 94% of cases, the body accepts it and osteogenesis occurs nearby the implant. After 90 to 130 days, the screw fuses to surrounding bone and integrates with it. Finally, the screw will act as tooth root. Applying the dental implants, we will prevent the bone atrophy in a tooth-lacking area.

Appropriate candidates for dental implant

The most appropriate and the ideal conditions to apply dental implants, is the existence a sufficiently big and quality jaw. Having bone-lacking jaws (both maxilla and mandible), this deficiency is compensated by using bone making graft compounds and new techniques to take bone from different areas of the body. Then, the jaws become ready for implants.

Contraindications to dental implants

Like all other medical treatments, placing dental implants is not possible for all persons. In cases that the body cannot repair and heal [the wounds], including uncontrolled diabetes, utilizing the dental implant is not applicable. However, if physician monitors the patient and the diabetes is under control, this procedure will be successful. Among other people who may not use implant are the patients who undergo chemotherapy. Nevertheless, fortunately after completing the therapeutic procedures, applying dental implants for these people is possible as well.

The experts of dental implants

Implanting tooth is a technical and scientific operation that require high-level technology. A dentist not only is not willing but also has not ability to fulfill all modern dental treatment procedures. Always, an expert team including jaw and facial surgeon, prosthesis and operative dentist –who have studied the dental implant at high levels-, can place dental implants. Generally, a professional team is preferred to perform treatment procedure, because all members examine the patient, offer a scientific plan, and a jaw and facial surgeon or jaw operator commences the treatment procedure. In this stage, the surgeon positions the screws into the gum bones. Three to five months after this procedure –varying for patients- the dental prosthesis operator continues the treatment by placing the tooth crown on the previously fixed screws.

Dental implant aftercares

Dental hygiene is of high importance. Hence, educated personnel and dentistry nurses clean the dental implant's base surroundings using the specific flosses and brushes.

Costs of dental implant

The cost of dental implants is often an apprehension among patients. This cost depends on the type of implant. It is better to utilize well-known products and use those types of implants that are certified by authorized dentistry organizations. Cheap and non-standard products will inflict irreparable damages to patient. However, the standard implants possess infinite durability. It should be noted that the cost of this procedure is not high in comparison with other prosthesis processes when we consider the quality material spent and novel techniques utilized. The cost of one implant unit is approximately equal to an ideal three-unit bridge.

Immediate dental implant

As implied by its name, immediate implant is the process of placing dental implant soon after extracting tooth, in the extracted tooth canal. However, applying implant during two weeks after extraction is considered as immediate implant. The procedure of positioning tooth crown on the implant is called "loading". Sometimes, it is possible to load crown on the implant at the same day of implanting. From the aesthetic viewpoint, this is pleasant for the patient. Immediate dental implant not only decreases your time spent in the dentist office but also speeds up the healing process.

The advantages of immediate implants

•Decreasing surgical operations and consequently sutures
•Helping to keep gum tissue
•Lower pain
•Maintaining natural appearance

Conditions for immediate dental implant

Immediate implants necessitates some primary conditions as follows:
No inflammation, infection, gingival diseases in the implant site (infection causes implant rejection)
The density and quality of bone tissue in the implantation site should be enough so it may be possible to heal wound, to cover the tooth cavity, and surround the dental implant.

Who cannot use immediate implant?

Since the implant fuses to the bone, the children cannot utilize this procedure. It is because that the children's bones have not grown completely. In adulthood if their jaws do not have sufficient bone density, they may use bone transplantation or mini dental implants.
The patient should be in good general health status when applying immediate implant. Smoking, alcohol intake, or diabetes causes low success rates of immediate implant. These conditions influence the wound healing process
and implant placement.

Immediate dental implant aftercares

It is important that the patient undergoing immediate implant not to gnash teeth. Gnashing may cause the low success chance of immediate dental implant.
In the past, the immediate dental implant was not suggested in the case of periapical defects. There was a belief that existence of bacteria in oral cavity and remaining infection source cause swelling, increasing bone atrophy, and possibly failing dental implant. However, new studies have suggested that if infection source is evacuated completely from oral cavity does not constitute a hindrance for applying immediate implant in these sites; good results have been reported as well. The prerequisite for this is that the remaining bone walls allow placing the implant and approaching appropriate primary stability.
